All sessions are confidential, with some legal and safety-related exceptions I will discuss with you.
"If you come to help me, then you are wasting your time. If you come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together."  -- attributed to Lilla Watson, aboriginal elder

Individual Therapy:  One-on-one sessions, usually 50 minutes every week, to explore your issues in a safe, nurturing, non-judgmental environment.  This may be right for you if you're struggling with a specific problem or if you're seeking to grow, expand, and come into greater harmony with yourself.

Relationship Therapy:  If you're in a committed relationship and both/all of you are seeking to clarify specific issues or if you want to improve and strengthen your relationship, this may be for you. In this mode of therapy I like to work as an advocate for the relationship; this means I'm an advocate for each person in the relationship, with your connection to each other as the focus of our work.  The insights that come to each partner can be illuminating for the other, as they are mutually shared and witnessed in a safe setting with an empathetic, attuned moderator who is interested in promoting good mental health for everyone involved. Usually a 50 or 80 minute session, weekly.

Family Therapy:  Sometimes we can gain greater clarity and improve our familial bonds when we participate in family counseling together.  Family sessions are usually 80 minutes, weekly, and may be co-facilitated with a qualified colleague, depending on family size and complexity.

Consulting:  You might be experiencing circumstances or a life transition in which you are seeking resolution and a path forward, for a brief focused time.
There are certain practical discussions we can have, with a near-term decision from you as our goal, while maintaining an awareness of and commitment to good mental health as a backdrop supporting this process. Examples are:  Elder parent care decisions; initial process of blending families; beginning to understand and manage chronic illness and its psychological impact; changing jobs while maintaining strength of identity.  This kind of consultation is targeted to take less than 3 months.  If these discussions move towards a longer time commitment and more of a psychotherapeutic emphasis to address resulting outcomes, the transition from one mode of treatment to another is relatively seamless and we will actively discuss it together.

Fees:  My standard fee for a session ranges between $175 and $225.  Sessions that are scheduled for more than an hour are usually billed at the higher end of the scale.  I also have a sliding scale that respects your income and adjusts to your ability to pay.  In addition, I may be able to work with your insurance company.
